A Little History
Forensic anthropology has changed very much since it started almost a century ago. The equipment that was used before wasn’t as productive as modern day tools because technology has advanced over time.
New technology and new programs are always being created to aid forensic anthropologists in their quest for uncovering the person being the bones, a recent program that was created in 2010 is the 3D-ID which is a program that measures the skull and tells the forensic anthropologist about the sex and the ancestral background of the person.
This program can be used when law enforcements cannot find most of the bones or only when a few bones are left behind. A reason for this would probably be that “As the prevalence of violent crimes increases, so does the need and use of forensic anthropology and archaeology.” (cartage.org.ib) this is because the more crimes there are in a city the more the crimes need to be investigated and solved.
The use of forensic anthropology isn’t just practiced in the United States and in England its use can also be helpful with other mass burials in Southern American countries such as Yugoslavia, Guatemala, and Argentina. It is also used in the World War II concentration camps; the reason for this is because there are more bodies that have to be uncovered and identified that were buried there during the war.
If you work as a forensic anthropologist the need for you to travel will sometimes be great because the crime scene may not always be in your area it could be out of state or even in a different country. This is because forensic anthropologists are also needed when there is a mass destruction of some sort in a place where hurricanes, tornados, and other natural disasters happen often.
